Pinhole Camera Workshops
Winnipeg Folk Festival Art and Animation Program 2015
In the summer of 2015, Natalie Baird and I facilitated Pinhole Camera Workshops at the Winnipeg Folk Festival.
Everyone who came to build cameras chose a “camera body” from a collection of recycled tins, wooden boxes, or other light-tight containers generously donated by Winnipeg’s ArtsJunktion and our friends and family. While building the cameras we discussed some of the science behind the optics of pinhole photography and the chemistry of darkroom photography.
Participants went on to uniquely capture the essence of the modern music festival experience through the non-existent “lens” of a hand-made pinhole camera!

Since 2015, the pinhole camera workshop has been repeated at Simon Fraser University in 2017 and 2018.
